Madrid is one of the major capitals of the arts. Its galleries and museums are among the finest in the world. Set aside a significant amount of time if you want to capture the full flavour of what Madrid has to offer.

This section covers cities and sites around Madrid which can be reached in an hour or two. Many of the cities around Madrid, most notably Toledo, were, in they day, more important than Madrid itself, and are fascinating from a historical, architectural and artistic perspective. Although all of the sites can be visited within a day, we would certainly recommend spending more time in the more important cities listed below. All are accessible by the Cercanias (commuter) trains, buses or of course, by private transport.

We also have a list of current art exhibits, (It's in Spanish, but there are pictures which should make it clear enough) For those with more immediate tastes, we maintain a current listing of all cinemas with a listing of cinemas showing movies in their original language, updated weekly, a guide to what's on inmusic, and a list of theaters.

We have details on the background of the cultural tradition of bullfighting, plus where best to go and see it for yourself. It's still one of the major tourist attractions, despite its "non-pc" label. Also, check out other aspects of local culture like flamenco dancing.
